Summer Food Tips

  Fruit salad

Strawberries, kiwi fruit, mango, banana, and 1/3 cup of orange juice. Feel free to substitute any combination of fruit you like. Fruit salad is easy to make and everyone can contribute by requesting their favourite fruits. Beware of fingers and hands when handling knives.

Grilled veggies with vinaigrette

On the BBQ, gently grill aubergines, zucchini, red, yellow, and green peppers. Prepare a vinaigrette with raspberry and balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, and olive oil. Mix vinaigrette with grilled vegetables to your liking. Note: children may not like vinai­grette and might prefer to eat the vegetables plain. The grilled will add flavour to the vegetables, especially the peppers, which children generally like.

Berries

      

Berries start ripening in August. Be sure to take your hand baskets with you while out walking. Blackberries and raspberries are bountiful and grow wild. You can make your own jam or tart with the freshly picked berries or simply add them to cereal or just eat plain! They are nature’s best candy.
